The Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry began partnering with Second Harvesters in 2014.  Food from Winn Dixie that could have seen the dumpster behind the store, is now being used to feed those in need.  Families are supplied each month with fresh and frozen products along with their canned and boxed items.

Food distribution is on Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 AM and on the first Wednesday of the month an additional time from 5:30 – 6:30 PM is also available.  On Sunday morning recipients are also given perishable items from 7:45 – 8:45 AM.

Volunteers from Dow Chemical, our Children’s Ministry, Anytime Fitness, as well as Girl and Boy Scouts, Beta Club and 4-H Club have helped fulfill the Food Pantry’s namesake.  Matthew 25:35 states, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me. . .”   Many have been blessed themselves from the opportunities to serve, which include praying for this ministry, donating food, picking up donated food from community groups such as the Luling Lion’s Club Bingo Hall, other churches and schools, helping with bagging items, and distributing the food on Wednesdays and Sundays.

We would be honored if you would like to join the growing number of volunteers who leave feeling blessed after working a few hours helping the hungry in our community.

Ways you may Volunteer

If you are looking for a way to serve our Lord and help people in the community the Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry could use your help. We are in need of the following:

Help bagging food - On Monday mornings or when your team can, we are in need of people to put the food bags together for distribution.

Winn Dixie Pick up - We are in need of individuals or teams of 2 or 3 to pick up from Winn Dixie. We pick up 6 days a week and we need people to adopt a day or to be a substitute. If we get enough teams we can pick up every other week or even once a month. It takes from 2 - 3 hours on average each week to pick up the food. We go to Winn Dixie and pick up the food that they are donating, then bring it back to the church to weigh, sort and put it away.

Wednesday Distribution - We would like to form distribution teams that would help each Wednesday or certain Wednesdays of the week. We work from 8:30AM - noon.

Sunday Distribution Teams - We would like to see a team work one Sunday a month to distribute produce. You would need to work from 7AM until 8:20AM

If you are called to help in any of the above ways or in any other way, please contact Mary Anne Schindler at 985-764-8386 or Beronco@hotmail.com.  Cash donaitons and food donations are also welcome.

We will be blessed with your help and you will also be blessed by serving.

Thanksgiving Baskets

As an extension of the Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry, Thanksgiving baskets with a frozen turkey and other traditional Thanksgiving Dinner goodies are prepared and distributed in late November along with a sit-down brunch & social.  As with the Food Pantry, donations of food and service are welcome and appreciated.
